Welcome to Leo's Class Page!

 

In Leo class (Year 5) Mrs Kenyon is the class teacher, with Mrs Morrissey teaching on Wednesday-Friday afternoons. They are supported by Mrs Conaghan and Mrs Cann. 

We are looking forward to an exciting and successful half term in Year 5. Below you will find important information about classroom routines, our learning, and how you can support your child at home.

Classroom Routines and Expectations

In Year 5, we encourage all children to:

• Arrive at school on time and ready to learn.

• Show kindness, respect and responsibility at all times.

• Follow our classroom rules and routines.

• Take pride in their work and always try their best.

• Read regularly and complete any home learning set.

We work hard to create a positive classroom environment where every child feels valued, challenged and supported.

Overview of Learning This Half Term

This half term, our learning will focus on developing key skills across the curriculum while exploring exciting new topics.

English

We will be developing our reading, writing and grammar skills through classic narratives and will be working towards writing a Non-Chronological Report. 

Maths

We will focus on place value, addition & subtraction, statistics, geometry, multiplication and division, fractions and time. 

History

We will be learning about the Tudors, including the Battle of Bosworth, Henry VII and how the Tudor dynasty began.

RE

We will continue to explore Christianity and Islam.

Science

We will be learning all about materials.

Key Texts

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Letters from the Lighthouse and The Legend of Gelert.

Children can access the following platforms from home:

• TT Rock Stars – Times tables practice

• Spelling Shed – Weekly spelling activities

• ClassDojo – Communication and class updates

How You Can Support at Home

You can make a huge difference to your child's progress by:

• Reading with your child at least 3–5 times each week.
• Encouraging regular TT Rock Stars practice.
• Supporting the learning of weekly spellings.
• Talking about what they have been learning in school.
• Ensuring homework is completed and returned on time.

• Swimming - Thursday
