The Governing Body

The Governing Body of Seven Stars School currently consists of 16 people (plus observers)

All Governors have been appointed in accordance with the relevant Acts of Parliament.

The Governing Body are like a board of directors. They work in partnership with the Headteacher to make decisions about how the school is run in order to improve the quality of education and ensure pupil progress.

Governors are responsible for:

  • setting school improvement targets and ensuring that the National Curriculum is taught
  • deciding how the school budget should be spent
  • ensuring that the buildings and furnishings are kept in good order
  • interviewing and selecting teaching staff

The full Governing Body meets as least once a term to ratify decisions, review progress and to discuss the Headteacher’s report, which covers all aspects of the school’s activities. There are also committee meetings usually once a term which include:

  • Resources Committee (finance, staffing, Health and Safety & premises)
  • Curriculum & Standards Committee (assessment, tracking pupil progress, overview of curriculum and behaviour)

Governors endeavour to visit the school regularly (when they are able and within Coronavirus restrictions) to discuss matters with staff and parents and to meet the children.

To contact a member of the governing body, please contact the headteacher on 01772 422503 or by email: head@seven-stars.lancs.sch.uk

To contact our Chair of Governors (Carol Stunell) please do so in writing to the Chair of Governors c/o Seven Stars Primary School, Peacock Hall Road, Leyland, PR25 1TD and mark the envelope 'private and confidential'. Carol regularly visits school and will collect all post directed to her from the school office (the post will remain unopened and only be opened by Mrs Stunell on collection)

Governors Information

Governor Meeting Attendance

If you are interested in being a school governor after reading the document about the role of the governor then please contact the Head teacher at the school in the first instance who will let you know what opportunities are available and, if there are any vacancies, will send an application to you.

From time to time there are positions for school co-opted governors which we will be advertising but if you are interested now then we can keep your application on file and contact you should a vacancy appear.

For a co-opted governor it is the Full Governing Body who will look at the needs of the school at that time and appoint someone that they feel can best meet those needs according to experience and skills.
